Second child of John Shawhan and Margaret "Peggy" McCune — sibling of Daniel "Cashier Dan" Shawhan (direct line, Gen 5), not herself part of the traced direct line to Spencer. Named for her grandmother Margaret Bell. Married William Reading and moved to Pike County, Missouri; her sister Nancy later married Margaret's own widower.
