First son of Darby Shawhan and Sarah Meeks. Born 1709 in Kent County, Maryland; died 1770 in Hampshire County, Virginia. Cordwainer/tanner and farmer; migrated the family west from Kent County to Frederick County, Maryland (1740), then to Hampshire County, Virginia/West Virginia (1759), ahead of the frontier. Married Jennett. Daniel's lineage continues into the present via son Daniel Shawhan.

- 14 Oct 1740Sold his share of "Shad's Hole" land to brother John Shawhan; migrated with wife Jennett and two children (Margaret, Daniel) to Frederick Co., Maryland, near Jefferson/Catoctin, about 7 miles west of Frederick (this section of Maryland formed into Frederick Co. in 1748)
- 1748Served as Corporal in Capt. Stephen Ransberger's Company, Maryland Colonial Militia, defending the frontier against French-led Indian raids
- 1755Present when General Braddock's troops passed through en route to Ft. Duquesne, and saw the survivors return after Braddock's defeat
- 1759Sold horses and cattle to Samuel Beall; moved the family further west to Hampshire Co., Virginia/West Virginia, near Romney
- 13 Nov 1770Transferred a deed to son Darby ("I Daniel Shaughen, Sr. of Hampshire Co.... leave unto Darby Shaughen, my beloved son"; Deed Book 2, page 203, Hampshire Co., VA) — died shortly after, per the source
