What it says
A short will. Daniel names two cousins, Cornelius Shahan and Dennis Dunnoho, and his "gossip" — in the usage of the period, a godparent — Jone Donnas. He leaves small bequests and signs with an X mark. The witnesses were William Bird, Morris Layne, and Thomas Rogers. He was dead within weeks: the will was proved on 22 August 1679.
The will mentions no wife and no children.
Why it matters
Together with the militia roll, this is everything the surviving record preserves of Daniel Shahan. It is the fixed point for the "Barbados path" in Two Roads from Munster: an Irish Catholic man bearing the Sheehan name, free, living in St. Thomas Parish, and dead in 1679 — when a boy born about 1673 would have been six. The X mark suggests he could not write.
Its silence is the biggest gap in that path. The absence of a wife and child is not proof that none existed — a poor man's hurried will often left out a wife with no claim to property, or a very young child — but nothing in it connects Daniel to Darby.
